Author Guidelines

Authors are invited to make a submission to this journal. All submissions will be assessed by an editor to determine whether they meet the aims and scope of this journal. Those considered to be a good fit will be sent for peer review before determining whether they will be accepted or rejected.

Before making a submission, authors are responsible for obtaining permission to publish any material included with the submission, such as photos, documents and datasets. All authors identified on the submission must consent to be identified as an author. Where appropriate, research should be approved by an appropriate ethics committee in accordance with the legal requirements of the study’s country.

Revista de Ciencias de la Educación publishes work in Spanish and in English. In both cases the manuscript must include the title, abstract and keywords in both languages. The linguistic quality of the English version is the authors’ responsibility, and the journal may request professional language editing before accepting a manuscript.

Manuscript preparation. Use the journal’s template, which can be downloaded at the end of these guidelines. Text is set in Calibri 11 pt, 1.5 line spacing, justified. Maximum length is 10,000 words, including references, tables and figures, except in the Book reviews section. Titles must not exceed 16 words; abstracts must be between 200 and 250 words, accompanied by 3 to 6 keywords, preferably from the European Education Thesaurus or ERIC.

Citations and references. APA style, 7th edition. Include only works cited in the text, in alphabetical order with a hanging indent. All references with a DOI must include it as a URL.

Anonymity. The manuscript file must contain no information identifying the authors, either in the text or in the document properties. Clean the file’s metadata before submitting. Cite your own work in the third person. Submissions that do not meet this requirement will be returned at the initial editorial assessment.

Figures and tables. Insert them in line with the text, centred, consecutively numbered and captioned, with a recommended maximum of eight graphic elements per article. Figures must also be submitted as separate files at a minimum resolution of 300 dpi. Table content must be editable text, never images, and must use horizontal rules only.

Final statements. Every manuscript includes the ethics statement, the statement on the use of artificial intelligence tools, the data and materials availability statement and the conflict of interest statement. Each contributor’s role is detailed following the CRediT taxonomy.

Preprints. Prior deposit of the work in a public repository, whether institutional, subject-based or general, is not considered prior publication and does not preclude review. Provide the preprint’s reference or DOI with your submission details. Once the article is published, update the preprint record with the full citation and the DOI of the final version.

Book reviews. These are submitted using their specific template, as a single file that includes the author’s details, with a total length of 700 to 1,000 words. They have no abstract or keywords and are not subject to peer review.

Fees and rights. The journal charges no submission or article processing fees. Content is published in immediate open access under a Creative Commons CC BY 4.0 licence. Authors retain the rights to their work and may share any version of it with no embargo period, citing the original publication.

Submission files: Work submitted to the Research articles, Studies and essays, Evidence-based practice, How to / Methodological notes and Student work sections is submitted as two files. The first is the anonymous manuscript, prepared using the journal’s template, which must contain no information identifying the authors. The second is the title page, which records full authorship with ORCID and affiliation, the contributor roles statement following the CRediT taxonomy, funding, acknowledgements and ethics approval with its reference number; this file is seen only by the editorial team and is never sent to reviewers. When uploading the files, label each one with its corresponding component. Book reviews are submitted as a single file, using their specific template, which does include the author’s details.
